The Ford Fusion was on sale from 2002 to 2012 and was based on the Fiesta. It shares the same chassis, so it’s entertaining to drive, and is taller so provides easier access and more space inside.

Its faux-SUV styling gives it a little extra ‘street cred’, as well as providing excellent visibility. The tight turning circle and small footprint make it perfect for the urban jungle, and it has two-wheel drive to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions.

You can find four engines under the bonnet: two petrols and two diesels. The punchiest performer is the 1.6-litre petrol, with 98bhp, while the 1.4-litre diesel is the most frugal: up to 64mpg. A variety of trim levels were offered throughout the Fusion’s decade on sale. Early Fusions were trimmed simply 1, 2 or 3. Later Fusions came with a variety of trim levels, including some special editions.
