The Qashqai has been in production since 2006 and during that time has been something of a success story, selling very well indeed throughout Europe.
Well-built, inside and out, this rather stylish crossover is augmented with many stand-out features including, for example, lightweight 16-inch alloy wheels, which are fitted as standard. The Qashqai isn’t all about appearances, however; in JD Power’s Vehicle Ownership Satisfaction study of 2009, it ranked 11th position in a total of 101 surveyed vehicles. In 2013, it came top of a most-reliable-new-SUV survey, which was run by consumer body, Which?
The five-person Qashqai provides comfortable seats for all on board, particularly front-row travellers, and delivers a good ride quality too. The driver also benefits from an adjustable and elevated position, which ensures superb forward visibility. A rake-and-reach steering wheel is also provided as standard. Other standard features include air-conditioning and four electric windows, as well as an MP3-compatible sound system that can be operated using steering wheel-mounted controls.
There are plenty of stowage spaces located around the cabin, including sizeable door pockets and a large glovebox. Thanks to 60/40 split-folding rear seats, a decently proportioned 410-litre boot space can be expanded to deliver an 860-litre capacity.
The vehicle is available with one of four petrol and diesel engines. Depending on the engine fitted, fuel economy figures range accordingly, from 35mpg to as much as 63mpg. Similarly, CO2 emission statistics vary between 189g/km and 119g/km. For optimal efficiency in this regard, a 1.6-litre diesel engine comes out on top.
