The Ford Puma is a brilliant coupé from the late 1990s, based on the Ford Fiesta. It has a fun personality with a sporty feel to the chassis, gearbox and clutch.

This brilliant little car was on sale from 1997 to 2002 and is a certain future classic, utterly beloved by the motoring press. It’s a front-wheel drive, four-seater coupé with bulbous lines and one of three engines under the bonnet: a 90bhp 1.4-litre; a 103bhp 1.6-litre; and a 123bhp 1.7-litre unit, which proved the biggest seller.

The dashboard architecture is borrowed from the Fiesta, and the sporty seats are supportive and comfortable. Much of the running gear is shared with the Fiesta too; this means maintenance on the Puma is affordable and parts are plentifully available. There’s a single trim level, although it’s worth noting that 1.4-litre versions lack traction control and ABS was optional, so may be missing.
