The Ford Scorpio is a rear wheel-driven executive saloon and estate sold in the UK from 1994 to 1998. Its distinctive bulbous headlights and wide grille helped it to stand out on the road, and it is far more distinctive than the Granada it replaced.

In fact, the Scorpio name first appeared as a luxury trim level on the previous Granada. Sitting at the top of the range above the ‘Ghia’ trim, these cars were badged ‘Scorpio’ on the boot lid, with an elongated ‘Granada’ badge underneath. Consequently, Scorpios from after 1994 are occasionally advertised as Granadas in error.

Under the bonnet you’ll find a range of engines; most Scorpios are petrol-powered - many fitted with an automatic gearbox - although a 2.5-litre diesel was also offered. A 2.9-litre Cosworth 24v V6 engine was available and delivered over 200bhp for rapid acceleration. The boot is extremely large, and the cabin very comfortable; top-of-the-range Ultima trim included leather upholstery, climate control, cruise control and a CD autochanger.

The Scorpio did not sell in large numbers and a used example is increasingly tricky to come by.
