Honda Hr-V - Overview

The HR-V is Honda’s entry into the small crossover market, and has been offered in two generations.

The first was introduced in 1999 and advertised as a ‘Joy Machine’, blending hot-hatch handling and high-revving engines in a three-door (and later five-door) soft-roader body, with a large boot. It was offered with either two or four-wheel drive, and these early HR-Vs all came with a 1.6-litre petrol engine. Standard versions had 103bhp, while VTEC models had 122bhp. It was discontinued in 2005.

By 2015, junior SUVs like the original HR-V had become fashionable, so Honda has revived it with a truly modern and handsome second generation. New-style HR-Vs can be had with either a petrol or diesel engine, with both being easy to find on the used market. All second-generation HR-Vs are front-wheel drive, in recognition of the fact that most will never venture off-road.
