The Nissan LEAF is an electrically powered five-door hatchback that was first issued in 2010 in Japan, and then three years later in the UK. This spacious family car is ideal for city driving and has gone on to become the country’s bestselling electric vehicle (EV).

The conservatively styled LEAF doesn’t make its EV credentials obvious. In fact, it can easily pass for a conventional fuel-driven car. However, it isn’t without panache and special features – for example, stylish 16-inch alloy wheels – which come as standard. This five-door car is also fitted with a number of labour-saving fixtures, such as power-operated door mirrors.

The LEAF’s spacious five-seat cabin ensures that even back-row travellers won’t feel cramped, and it provides the driver with an adjustable position. The well-equipped LEAF features keyless entry, four electric windows, an infotainment system, Bluetooth connectivity and satellite navigation – all included as standard. Furthermore, the vehicle’s four-speaker sound system can be safely operated using steering wheel-mounted controls. Earlier versions of the car come with a 330-litre boot space, but models made from 2013 onwards were bestowed with a 370-litre cargo capacity.

Upon release, the LEAF was powered by a 24kWh motor, which produces 107bhp and 280Nm of torque. From 2015 onwards, models were fitted with a 30kWh unit, which provides a maximum 155-mile range.

The LEAF comes with Euro NCAP’s five-star crash-test rating, and its range of driver aids includes Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Traction Control and Hill-hold Assist.
